Born Again to the Living Hope
“Hope is where action for change & transformation can be ignited” is my thesis statement for my dissertation, “The Crisis of Hope in the Karen Struggle: Drawing from Moltmann’s Insight of Hope.” The aim of my dissertation is to create a handshake between Moltmann’s Theology of Hope and the Karen struggle. While writing the thesis one of my supervisors told me: “Your thesis is You.”
Through hope I spring into action. I do what I do because of this thesis statement. So, a lot of everything I do evolve around “your-thesis-is-you” dictum, i.e., Hope is where action for change and transformation is ignited. The formation of Kawthoolei Hope Theological Seminary, the affiliation of our institutions (KKBBSC & KHTS) by IATA, of M.Min program, the birth of SPHERE’s socio-political Institute, our being accepted into memberships of APBF and BWA, our Kawthoolei Independence Initiatives, and even things I would envisage in future, a lot of everything evolve around HOPE IS WHERE ACTION FOR CHANGE & TRANSFORMATION CAN BE IGNITED!
The two books in question now are: Born Again to a Living Hope, and the Trailblazers. Born Again to a Living Hope aims at edifying the Karen Churches while Trailblazers has as its intended tarted in the socio-political framework. Whether it is Mind the Gap, Vision: You can Live Your Dreams, Doctoral in the Jungle, Born Again to the Living Hope or Trailblazers, I do what I do for the same reason—I have hope and through hope I spring into action. Action for change, transformation, yes, for God’s Kingdom of peace, justice, equality, love and shalom to reign upon this earth. This is my hope.
My secondary reason is called ‘dignity of labor’. Books have become substantial means of provision for ministries I am involved. Let me stress something here. Whether you are a waiter/waitress in a restaurant, a cleaner in school buildings, contractors, designers, burger flippers, airline pilots, a farmer, a seminary professor or a house maid, all labors have dignity. I am reiterating Martin Luther King Jr.: “All labor has dignity.” (Here, I am not referring bombing civilians, robing a bank, murdering or stealing, propagating lies, character assassination and backstabbing, etc., I am referring to work with honest means.) my books don’t deserve much of a buy but many people did buy out of their generosity that reflects the core of their being rooted in compassion. For these reasons, in some substantial ways, writing books has become my dignity of labor.
Because…
Hope is where action for change & transformation can be ignited.
Through hope, we spring into action; we soar the height, we plunge the depth,
we will not give in; with the love of Christ which binds us strong, we will go on.
Through crossroads, through roadblocks, even though dead-end
Through it all, with the love of the Triune God, we will go on.
